I just don't want to restrict my own access. I'm wondering if I can possibly set up access time restrictions on the VPN and OWA site to prevent them from logging on during what would be the restricted hours. Seems as though the logon hours are probably affecting it and there's no way around it other than giving those users 24x7 access to authenticate so the sync issues are resolved. I didn't see anything about an Exchange password - there is a device password policy.ĭo you have any Windows Phone users having this same - Looks as though the logon hours affect the authentication to AD, which in turn would prevent Exchange from authenticating - I used an iPhone at my previous employer and had backups running every night but never received the prompt for a password (Exhchange 2010 - Symantec Backup Exec w/ Exchange Client). Seriously - There are policies that Exchange can place on the Active-Sync device.

Users with Android devices don't seem to experience the same kind of issue. They enter their password a few times and sometimes it will connect but other times it may continue asking over and over and not connect until they let it alone for a period of time and try again.

Not sure why it would happen in the middle of the day though unless it's just carried over from the day before? Anyone know how to allow the phone to log on but not a user? I don't think this is possible.Īll of our iPhone users experience a similar situation, various times during the day they are prompted for their exchange password in order to get access to their email. We have this set up during our backups so this might be why this is happening for some of them. I did do some research and it seems that people had the same issue if they had certain log on hours blocked for the users. I'll have to try the PUSH/FETCH settings with someone over the weekend. IPhones use the same connection path that Outlook Web Access uses. If the user can log into and get email via Outlook Web Access, then they can get it on their iPhone if not, the iPhone will request a password but not be able to connect.

Think of iPhone users as app-based Outlook Web Access. Otherwise you will get the password request activity you mentioned and they still won't get their email. We have found that users with iPhones can only get their mail during logon hours so we have to make them 24x7 users.
